There’s a new Camel in town! We’re happy to share that Julie Schmidt has joined the Flying Camel team as our new Account Specialist. From her obsession with the Food Network to her love for writing, we asked Julie to share a bit about herself and her excitement of joining the team:
I graduated from the University of Guelph in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours with a major in Political Science. Believe it or not, my original plan was to pursue a career as a divorce lawyer. However, I quickly realized that my motivations for doing so were strictly financial, and that I wouldn’t be happy in the long-run.
I’ve always had a passion for communication and realized during my undergrad that I loved to write, I just didn’t enjoy what I was writing about in that particular program. After taking some time off to figure out what I truly wanted to do with my future, I stumbled upon the Public Relations and Corporate Communications post-graduate program at Seneca College. I graduated with a post-graduate certificate in April 2017, and shortly after I landed an internship at a PR agency in downtown Toronto, specializing in arts and entertainment. From there, I worked my way up to the role of Publicist.
After a whirlwind year and a half filled with tons of learning experiences, I decided it was time for a new challenge closer to home (I live in Milton) and was lucky enough to join the Flying Camel team! I’ve only had my Camel wings for a few weeks, but I can already tell that I’ve joined a team of brilliant, strategic and forward-thinking women. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn and work alongside them.
When I’m not working, most of my time is spent hanging out with my boyfriend Connor, family and friends. I’m a bit obsessed with the Food Network, and you’ll often find me in the kitchen testing out a new recipe that caught my eye. Dogs are another obsession of mine, and I spend more time than I’d like to admit scrolling through adorable photos on Instagram! I do my best to get outdoors and be active on the weekends, taking advantage of the many hiking trails in Milton during the warmer months and hitting the slopes on my snowboard in the winter.
